Shake grass and grit out of the net and the pole sections, and let the net dry before it goes back in the case. Keep studded boots off the net when it is on the ground, because a caught stud is what tears a nylon net.

A portable football tennis net, 4.27m wide, with a nylon net on painted steel poles. It is free standing, so there are no stakes to push into a hard pitch or a driveway.

The poles have three marked height settings up to 155cm. Use the lowest setting for football tennis, and raise it for badminton or volleyball.

It goes up in about two minutes with no tools, and packs into its carry case with the pole sections joined by a bungee cord.

Football Tennis Net

Football tennis teaches touch faster than most drills, because the ball has to come down under control or it does not come back over. What the game needs is a low net that stays where you put it. This net is 4.27m wide, stands on painted steel poles, and is set to its lowest height for football tennis.

Football Tennis Net

It is free standing, so there are no stakes to force into a dry pitch or a driveway. That also means you can move it a few metres when someone points out the flower bed is in the line of play.

Football Tennis Net

The net is nylon, which takes a struck ball without complaint. What tears any net is a stud caught in the mesh, so keep boots off it when it is on the ground.

At the higher settings it is the same net the store sells for volleyball and badminton. The whole set packs into its carry case, with the pole sections threaded on a bungee cord.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a football tennis net?

It is a low net for football tennis, also called futnet. Players get a football over the net using their feet, thighs, chest and head, but never their hands.

What size is a competition football tennis net, and how does this one compare?

Competition football tennis is played over a net roughly a metre high, across a court much wider than any portable net. This net is 4.27m wide with three marked settings up to 155cm, and football tennis is played on the lowest one.

Is this a competition or professional net?

No. It is a portable net for training, garden games and school sessions, not a match fixture for a league.

Can I adjust the height?

Yes. The poles have three marked settings up to 155cm. Use the lowest for football tennis and the higher ones for other games.

How easy is it to set up?

Very easy. It needs no tools and no stakes, and once you know the routine it takes about two minutes.

How long does it take to take down?

About as long as it takes to put up. The pole sections fold on their bungee cord and everything goes into the carry case.

What is the best surface for it?

Any flat ground: grass, tarmac, sand or an indoor floor. Flat matters more than the surface.

How do I secure it on different surfaces?

It is free standing, so it does not need stakes or suction cups. On a breezy day, weigh each foot down with a bag or a stone.

Can it handle strong wind?

Like any free standing net, it can move in a strong wind. Weighing the feet down settles it.

Can I play on the beach with it?

Yes, on flat sand. Because it needs no stakes, dry sand is not a problem.

Can I use it indoors and outdoors?

Yes. It works in a sports hall where a ball is allowed, as well as outside. Pack it away when you are finished rather than leaving it out in the weather.

Can children and adults play together?

Yes. Football tennis works well with mixed ages, and you can raise the net when the stronger players want a harder game.

What age groups is it suitable for?

Children and adults both use it. An adult should set it up and take it down for younger children.

Can I use it for solo practice?

Partly. You can work on keeping the ball up and lifting it over the net on your own, but the game itself needs someone on the other side.

Do I need a net to play football tennis?

You can play over a line on the ground, but a net gives players a clear target and makes every touch count.

Can I adjust the tension?

Fit the net so it is taut when you set it up, then check it after the first few rallies and tighten it if it has settled.

What is it made of?

The net is nylon and the poles are painted steel.

Is it durable?

The nylon net takes a struck ball without trouble. How long it lasts depends on care: keep studded boots off it and dry it before packing.

How can I make it last?

Pack it away after play, dry it before it goes into the case, and keep grit out of the pole sections.

Does it need any maintenance?

Very little. Check the net for wear now and then, keep the poles clean, and store it dry.

How do I clean it?

Shake out grass and sand, wipe the poles down, and rinse the net with fresh water if it is sandy. Let it dry before packing.

How do I store it?

In its carry case, somewhere dry and cool, once the net is fully dry.

How portable is it?

It is lightweight and folds into the carry case supplied, so it is easy to take to the park or a training session.

Can I choose a colour?

No. This net is not offered in a choice of colours. If colour matters to you, email us before ordering.

Does it come with a warranty?

No separate warranty is offered. If it arrives faulty, damaged or wrong, we put it right at no cost, and your rights under Irish and EU consumer law still apply.

Can I use it for other sports?

Yes. At higher settings it works for badminton and volleyball, and it also suits casual tennis and pickleball.

How much does it cost?

€99, reduced from €119. That is over €75, so standard delivery across Ireland is free.

How do I choose a portable football tennis net?

Look at the width, whether it stands without stakes, the height settings and how it packs away. A free standing net works on far more surfaces.

Are there other types of football tennis net?

Yes. Competition courts use fixed nets on posts. Portable nets like this one bring their own poles, so you can play anywhere flat.

Where can I buy this net?

Right here, online. Outdoor Sports Company Ireland delivers across Ireland, with no physical shop.

I haven't received my order yet. Is it lost?

Orders are handled in 24 to 48 hours and take 5 to 7 days to arrive, and every parcel is tracked. If it has been longer than that, or the tracking looks stuck, email theteam@customersupport.care with your order number and we will check it for you.

How do I know if my order has shipped?

When your parcel leaves us, we email you a tracking number. That email is your sign it is on the way.

Do you have a shop I can visit?

No. Outdoor Sports Company Ireland is an online store only, with no physical shop.

Do I get a receipt for my order?

Yes. A receipt is emailed to you once payment goes through, and a second email with your tracking number follows when the parcel ships.

What are the delivery options, and how long does delivery take?

We deliver across Ireland. Standard delivery is free on orders of €75 or more after discounts, and €25 below that. Express delivery is an optional upgrade at €25 on any order. Orders are handled in 24 to 48 hours, then allow 5 to 7 days for delivery.

What currency are your prices in?

All prices are in euro (€).

Which payment methods do you accept?

You can pay by card, processed by Stripe, or with PayPal.

Which height setting should I use for football tennis?

The lowest setting for most games, so rallies build. Move up a setting when everyone playing is strong.

What are the exact lower height settings?

The top setting is 155cm and there are two lower marked settings. If you need the exact lower heights before you order, email theteam@customersupport.care and we will confirm them.

How many players can use it?

One a side is the usual game, and two a side works across 4.27m.

Does it come with a ball?

No. You get the net, poles and carry case. Any football will do.

Can coaches use it in training sessions?

Yes. Football tennis works well as a warm-up or skills game for first touch and control in the air. For several nets, use our /wholesale/ page to ask for a quote.

Is delivery free on this item?

Yes. At €99 it is over the €75 threshold, so standard delivery across Ireland is free. Express delivery is available as a €25 upgrade if you want it.

Will everything arrive in one parcel?

Not always. Items in one order can arrive in separate parcels, and each one is tracked.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

Yes, within 15 days of purchase. It needs to be in its original packaging with proof of purchase, and you pay the return postage for a change of mind. Irish and EU law also give you 14 days from delivery to withdraw from an online purchase.

What if it arrives damaged, faulty or wrong?

Email theteam@customersupport.care with your order number and tell us what is wrong. A faulty, damaged or incorrect item is put right at no cost to you.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes. Orders can be cancelled free of charge any time before they are dispatched. Email theteam@customersupport.care as soon as you can.

How to set up and play football tennis with a portable net

5 min read Outdoor Sports Company

What football tennis is

Football tennis, also called futnet, is played with a football over a low net. Players use their feet, thighs, chest and head, never their hands. Most versions allow one bounce and a few touches on each side before the ball has to go back over.

It is a simple game, and it is one of the best ways to build touch. The ball has to come down under control, or it does not come back over.

Why coaches and players rate it

You cannot let the ball run in football tennis. Every touch is a decision, and the next touch has to set up the one after it.

That is why coaches use it for warm-ups and skills sessions. A few minutes of football tennis works first touch, control in the air and weight of pass, and players treat it as a game rather than a drill.

What to look for in a football tennis net

A few things matter more than anything else.

It should stand on its own

Pegs do not go into a driveway, a hard summer pitch or a hall floor. This net is free standing, with no stakes and no tools, so it works on any flat ground.

It should adjust

The poles have three marked height settings up to 155cm. Football tennis is played on the lowest setting. The higher settings turn the same net into a badminton or volleyball net.

It should pack away

The net folds into a carry case, and the pole sections are joined by a bungee cord so nothing gets left behind at the park.

Setting the height

For most football tennis games, use the lowest setting. Rallies build when a decent flick clears the net.

If everyone playing is strong, move up a setting. The game gets harder straight away, because every ball needs a proper lift to clear the net.

If you need the exact lower heights before you order, email theteam@customersupport.care and we will confirm them.

Marking out a court without paint

Nobody paints lines on a lawn for a casual game, so use what you have.

  • Depth matters more than width. Allow four or five metres each side of the net for singles, and more for two a side.
  • Use cones, bags or shoes to mark the back line.
  • The net is 4.27m wide, so the sidelines mostly take care of themselves.
  • Check what is behind each end. Balls go long far more often than wide, so keep windows and greenhouses out of the line of play.

Simple rules that work

Keep the rules short and the game runs itself.

  1. One bounce allowed, then up to three touches before the ball goes back.
  2. No hands or arms.
  3. Serve from the back line with a drop and a volley.
  4. A ball that clips the net and drops in is replayed, not a point.

Change any of these to suit your group. Younger players may need two bounces to start.

Setting it up

  1. Take the poles out of the case and let the bungee cord pull the sections together.
  2. Stand the poles on flat ground, fit the net and set both poles to the lowest mark.
  3. Make sure the net is taut before you start, and check it again after the first few rallies.

Once you have done it once, it takes about two minutes. On a windy day, weigh the feet down with a bag or a stone.

After the game

Two habits keep a net usable season after season.

Keep studs off it

A struck football does not hurt a nylon net. A boot caught in the mesh while the net is lying on the ground is what tears it. Keep feet off it when it is packed up.

Dry it before it goes away

Grass and damp folded into a case is what makes a net smell in the shed. Shake it out, let it dry and wipe the poles.

For clubs and schools

A portable net that goes up in minutes is handy for training sessions, PE lessons and summer camps. For several nets, use our /wholesale/ page to ask for a quote.
