"description": "Start with the exercises you will actually do\n\nBefore you look at the weight on the box, write down the movements you plan to train. The right set follows from that list.\n\nCurls, lateral raises and light shoulder presses use modest loads. Rows, chest presses on a bench and goblet squats use more. Most people starting out spend months in the lower range, even when they bought a heavy set.\n\nWhy adjustable rather than fixed\n\nA full rack of fixed dumbbells covers every weight, but it needs a wall to itself and costs a lot. An adjustable set swaps that for two bars and a stack of plates that fit under a bench or a desk.\n\nYou also get small steps. With plates of different sizes you can add a little load at a time instead of jumping in big blocks, and steady small increases are how strength builds over a training block.\n\nThe two kinds of adjustable dumbbell\n\nSelectorised\n\nThese use a dial or a pin. You pick a number and the handle lifts the matching plates. Changes are quick and the length stays the same, but they cost far more, and the mechanism is one more part that can wear.\n\nPlate-loaded\n\nThis set is plate-loaded. You slide plates onto a threaded bar and screw a spin-lock collar down against them. It takes longer to change, and the bar gets longer as you load it. In return the parts are simple, and there is very little to go wrong.\n\nFor home training the slower change matters less than people expect. You change weight between exercises, and most sessions only need a few changes.\n\nPicking a set weight\n\nThe option you choose is the total weight of the set: plates, bars and collars together. Every set has chrome-finish bars with knurled grips, concrete plates with a plastic cover, and four spin-lock collars.\n\n15kg or 20kg\n\nA good fit for arm and shoulder work, newer lifters and small spaces. The 15kg set has eight plates (four of 2kg and four of 1.5kg) on two 43cm bars, for €69. The 20kg set adds four 1.25kg plates, for €79.\n\n25kg or 30kg\n\nMore room for rows, presses and lower body work such as goblet squats and lunges. The 25kg set uses four 2.5kg, four 2kg and four 1.5kg plates on 43cm bars, for €89. The 30kg set adds four 1.25kg plates and comes with longer 47cm bars, for €99.\n\nLegs outgrow any small dumbbell set in time, so if lower body strength is your main aim, plan for that.\n\nWhat to look for in the parts\n\nGrip comes first. A handle that turns in a damp hand is hard to control, which is why the handles here are knurled to add friction.\n\nNext, the plates. Concrete plates are bulkier than cast iron for the same weight, and they need to be set down rather than dropped. The plastic cover helps protect the floor, but a mat under your training space is still worth having.\n\nThen the collars. Spin-lock collars are simple, cheap to replace and hold well when screwed down tight against the plates.\n\nHabits that keep a spin-lock set working\n\nCheck both collars before every set. A collar that has worked loose is the most common problem with any plate-loaded dumbbell.\n\nLoad the plates evenly on each side, and watch the bar length as you add weight. A long, heavily loaded bar can catch a bench, a door frame or your own leg.\n\nKeep the threads clean and dry. Grit and damp are what make a collar stiff, so wipe the bars down after a sweaty session.\n\nStore the plates on the floor or a strong shelf, with the bars unloaded. A loaded bar left leaning against a wall is the one that rolls.\n\nGetting more from a small set\n\nWhen a weight starts to feel easy, you do not always need more plates. Slow the lowering phase, add a pause at the hardest point, or add reps before you add load. One-arm rows and presses let a single bar carry most of the plates.\n\nA lighter set used with good form will take you further than a heavier one used carelessly.\n\nBuying for a gym, club or school\n\nIf you are kitting out a club gym, a school or a workplace fitness room, ask for a quote through our wholesale page.",

It gives two players everything they need to start: two rackets, three nylon shuttlecocks and a bag to keep them together.\n\nIt is not a club player's racket. Anyone who takes up badminton seriously will choose their own racket in time, and that is the right order to do it in.\n\nWhat to check on any badminton set\n\nCheap badminton sets tend to fail in the same place, and it is usually not the strings.\n\nThe T joint\n\nThe T joint is where the racket head meets the shaft. On a racket built from two parts glued together, that joint can work loose with use. Once it does, the racket feels dead and vibrates on every shot.\n\nThese rackets are a one-piece design with the T joint built in. That is the one detail worth checking on any set in this price range.\n\nWeight\n\nThe rackets have a graphite shaft, and the rest is a carbon aluminium composite. That keeps them light.\n\nLight rackets matter most for beginners. A heavy racket tires the arm quickly, and a tired arm is where bad habits start. With a lighter racket, new players can keep a rally going for longer.\n\nThe shuttlecocks\n\nThe set comes with three nylon shuttlecocks. Feather shuttles fly beautifully, but outdoors they break up quickly on mis-hits and damp grass.\n\nNylon shuttles take a knock and keep going, which suits garden play, school yards and anyone still learning.\n\nGetting started without a net\n\nMost sets get used before anyone buys a net, and that is fine.\n\nPut two bags or a pair of shoes on the ground as a centre line. Then play a rally game: count how many shots in a row you can keep going, rather than trying to win points. It works well for mixed ages and it builds the skill that matters most early on, which is hitting the shuttle cleanly and often.\n\nWhen you want a proper game, add a net. Our badminton net is 4.27m wide with three height settings up to 155cm, and the top setting matches the height of a full-size net at the posts.\n\nPlaying outdoors\n\nA shuttlecock is very light, so any breeze will push it around. That is true of every set.\nPlay across the wind rather than straight into it.\nPick a sheltered spot, such as a garden corner beside a wall or hedge.\nOn a gusty day, switch to the rally game and save points for a calmer evening.\n\nIndoors, you need a hall or room with enough ceiling height for a high shot.\n\nLooking after the set\n\nA set like this lasts longest when it is stored well between games.\n\nKeep everything in the bag\n\nA racket rolling loose in a car boot is the one that ends up with a cracked frame. Put both rackets and the shuttles back in the bag after play.\n\nAvoid heat and cold\n\nDo not leave the set in a hot car or a freezing shed for long spells. Big swings in temperature are hard on any composite frame.\n\nKeep shuttles out of the sun\n\nStrong sunlight makes the nylon skirt of a shuttle brittle over time. A brittle skirt splits on a hard hit, and then the shuttle stops flying straight. When that happens, swap in the next one.\n\nFor schools and groups\n\nFor an introductory PE session or a youth group, a two-racket set gets a pair playing straight away. Doubles needs four rackets, so buy two sets.\n\nIf you need several sets for a school or club, use our /wholesale/ page to ask for a quote.",

A gymnast has to learn foot placement, a steady gaze, a straight line and a clean turn. The height adds nothing to those lessons for a beginner, but it adds a lot of fear.\n\nThis is why clubs start young gymnasts on low and floor beams. The top is just as narrow, but a step off is a step, not a fall.\n\nWhy 240cm matters\n\nA short beam runs out quickly. A child gets a couple of steps in, turns, and has to start again.\n\nWith 240cm to work with, a child can join a walk, a turn and a hold into one short run. Linking moves is how single drills start to become a routine. The extra length also gives a child time to notice they are drifting off line and fix it before the end.\n\nWhat makes a floor beam grip\n\nLook underneath a floor beam before you judge it. Dense EVA keeps its form under repeated steps, so the centre stays level.\n\nOutside is a PU leather cover. A damp cloth cleans it, and it is gentler on bare feet and bumped shins than a hard surface.\n\nVelcro holds the beam closed in place of metal latches. There are no latches to pinch small fingers when it is opened or packed away, and no hard edges to scratch the floor.\n\nWhat to practise on it\n\nGood work for a floor beam:\nWalks forwards, backwards and sideways\nToe rises and balances\nTurns on both feet, then one\nHolds and simple poses\nSmall jumps landing on the beam or off to the side\n\nAnything with rotation, such as cartwheels and flips, belongs with a coach at the club.\n\nSupervision\n\nYou will see floor beams sold as a way to practise walks, turns and flips safely. Walks and turns, yes. Flips need a coach and proper matting wherever they happen, and a low beam does not remove that need.\n\nBeing close to the floor means a wobble ends in a step down rather than a drop. That lowers the fall height, which helps while a child learns the basics. It does not make any skill safe, so keep an adult present for every session.\n\nSetting it up at home\n\nFind about three metres of open floor: the 240cm beam, plus room to step off at both ends. Where pads teach timing with a partner, a bag lets you repeat a combination fifty times, work on distance, and build power and conditioning at your own pace.\n\nChoosing a bag\n\nThink about what you train, where the bag will hang and who will use it.\n\nLength. This bag is 4ft, which is 120cm. That covers body shots and head-height punches for most adults and still fits under a normal ceiling. It takes low and mid kicks well; for a lot of high kicks, a longer bag is the better choice.\n\nFilling. This one arrives pre-filled. Filling a bag yourself is harder than it sounds, and a badly filled bag ends up hard at the bottom and loose at the top.\n\nCover. A synthetic PU leather outer takes repeated punches and wipes clean. Inside, a shock-absorbing high-density layer and a compound layer cushion the knuckles on contact.\n\nWeight. The right weight depends on your size, your level and how hard you hit. Heavier bags move less under power punches; lighter bags swing more and suit speed work. It is filled with about 5kg (11 lbs) of elastic sponge, so it moves more than a heavy sand or fabric-filled bag.\n\nHanging it at home or in a club\n\nThe fixing matters as much as the bag. A filled bag is heavy standing still, and a punch or kick pulls on the fixing far harder than that, over and over, from different angles.\n\nUse something structural\n\nHang it from a ceiling joist, a structural beam, a garage rafter that can take the load, or a wall bracket bolted into masonry. Plasterboard, suspended ceilings and decorative beams will not hold a heavy bag.\n\nUse hardware rated for a swinging load\n\nThe bag hangs on a steel chain that resists corrosion. The hook, bracket and bolts you fix it to need to be rated for a moving load, not just the bag's standing weight. If you are unsure, ask a builder to check the fixing point.\n\nCheck the space\n\nA bag swings. Allow room to circle it with a clear metre or so all round, more if you kick, and keep it clear of doors, windows and walls.\n\nThink about noise and the floor\n\nEvery strike travels into the structure you hang it from. A mat under the bag cuts noise and gives you a better surface to move on.\n\nTraining on it properly\n\nWrap and glove up every time. The cover and inner layers cushion contact, but they do not replace hand wraps and gloves. Bare knuckles on a heavy bag is how hands and wrists get hurt.\n\nFind your distance. Stand where your straight punch lands with a slight bend left in the arm. Most beginners stand too close and end up pushing the bag instead of hitting it.\n\nSnap the shot back. A bag that swings wildly is usually being pushed. Hit through the target, return the hand, and the bag moves less while you learn more.\n\nMove between combinations. The bag comes back to you. Use that: hit, step off at an angle, and hit again from a new position.\n\nBuild up gradually. New users should start with lighter work and build intensity over a few weeks. Wrists and shoulders need time to adapt to heavy bag work.\n\nA heavy bag also makes a hard cardio session. Short rounds with a set rest period between them build endurance as well as technique.\n\nUsing it with juniors\n\nA heavy bag suits supervised junior sessions with gloves on and light contact. An adult should check the fixing and keep younger children clear of a swinging bag.\n\nKeeping it in good order\n\nWipe it down. Sweat left on the cover works into the stitching. A damp cloth after each session is enough.\n\nRotate it. Turn the bag a quarter turn every few weeks so one side does not take every shot.\n\nCheck the chain and fixings. Look over the chain, links and bracket bolts once a month. They can work loose slowly on any bag.\n\nKeep it out of the weather. Under cover is fine. "description_short": "A general-purpose rope with a stated 1200kg load rating. It is not certified climbing or fall-arrest equipment, so it is not for roped climbing, abseiling or caving.",
"description": "The short version\n\nThis is a 20m, 12mm black polyester rope with a stated load rating of 1200kg. It is good for hand-over-hand rope climbs in a gym or garden, hauling, camping, boat work and tie-downs.\n\nIt is not certified life-safety equipment. It is not a climbing rope in the sense a climbing wall or a mountain instructor means it, and it must not be used for roped climbing, abseiling, caving or anything where the rope would catch a falling person.\n\nClimbing ropes and utility ropes\n\nRopes sold for roped climbing fall into two main groups.\n\nDynamic ropes\n\nThese stretch under load to absorb the energy of a fall. They are used for lead climbing, and they are tested and certified to EN 892.\n\nLow-stretch ropes\n\nThese stretch very little and are used for abseiling, rope access and some top-rope set-ups. For life-safety use they are certified to EN 1891.\n\nWhere this rope fits\n\nThis rope holds neither certification. It has no fall rating, no impact force rating and no tag with a date of manufacture. Those are the details a climbing rope is judged on. For any use where a rope stops a fall, buy one sold for that job by a climbing brand, and retire it on their schedule.\n\nWhat this rope does have is length, a good grip and a stated load rating that suits everyday work.\n\nWhy polyester\n\nIt resists rot. Natural fibre rope stored damp goes soft over time. Polyester can live in a shed, a boat locker or a camping box.\n\nIt resists tears and heavy wear. Rubbing over edges is how most ropes wear out, and polyester stands up well to rough general use.\n\nIt packs small. Twenty metres of 12mm rope rolls into a tidy bundle that fits a kit bag or a car boot.\n\nDiameter and length\n\nRopes made for climbing are often 9mm to 10.5mm thick and 60m to 70m long, sized for long routes and light carrying. This rope is sized for other jobs.\n\nAt 12mm it is thick enough to grip well on a hand-over-hand climb and still easy to knot. At 20m it covers a tall gym beam, a campsite set-up or a haul line from a boat, without a heavy coil to carry.\n\nRope climbs in a gym or garden\n\nThis is where the name comes from, and it is a good use for this rope.\n\nAnchor first\n\nFix the rope to a beam, rafter or frame rated for a person moving on it. The rope is stronger than most anchors it will be tied to, so the anchor is the part to get checked. If in doubt, have a competent person fit it.\n\nSoft ground underneath\n\nPut a mat, grass or bark under the rope. Rope climbs end with a descent, and descents go faster than people expect.\n\nKnots for beginners\n\nTying a knot every 40cm or so gives the feet something to push on. It turns a climb a beginner cannot do into one they can learn.\n\nGloves for repeat work\n\nSliding down causes rope burn. Gloves help on repeated climbs, and so does teaching a hand-under-hand descent.\n\nSupervise children\n\nAn adult should watch every climb. Children climb only as high as the coach or parent is happy with.\n\nOther jobs it does well\nrigging a tarp or shelter on a campsite\nhanging food bags and kit off the ground\nhauling gear up to a platform or down a bank\ntie-downs and general deck work on a boat\ntying off and hauling gear on a fishing trip\n\nIt is not a tow rope and it is not rated lifting gear. For towing a vehicle or lifting a load overhead, use equipment rated for that job.\n\nLooking after it\n\nRinse after salt, sand or grit. Grit worked into the rope wears it from the inside every time it bends.\n\nDry before coiling. Let the rope dry fully in the air before it goes back in a bag.\n\nSeal any cut end. Use heat or tape straight away, or the end will fray.\n\nKeep it out of the sun. Sunlight weakens synthetic rope over time, so do not leave it rigged outdoors all year.\n\nCheck it before each use. Retire it from load-bearing work if you find a flat spot, a stiff section, glazing from friction heat, cuts or damaged fibres.\n\nBuying for a club or school\n\nFor several ropes for a gym, a club or a school, ask for a quote through our wholesale page.",

"description_text": "The short version This is a 20m, 12mm black polyester rope with a stated load rating of 1200kg. It is good for hand-over-hand rope climbs in a gym or garden, hauling, camping, boat work and tie-downs. It is not certified life-safety equipment. It is not a climbing rope in the sense a climbing wall or a mountain instructor means it, and it must not be used for roped climbing, abseiling, caving or anything where the rope would catch a falling person. Climbing ropes and utility ropes Ropes sold for roped climbing fall into two main groups. Dynamic ropes These stretch under load to absorb the energy of a fall. They are used for lead climbing, and they are tested and certified to EN 892. Low-stretch ropes These stretch very little and are used for abseiling, rope access and some top-rope set-ups. For life-safety use they are certified to EN 1891. Where this rope fits This rope holds neither certification. It has no fall rating, no impact force rating and no tag with a date of manufacture. Those are the details a climbing rope is judged on. For any use where a rope stops a fall, buy one sold for that job by a climbing brand, and retire it on their schedule. What this rope does have is length, a good grip and a stated load rating that suits everyday work. Why polyester It resists rot. Natural fibre rope stored damp goes soft over time. Polyester can live in a shed, a boat locker or a camping box. It resists tears and heavy wear. Rubbing over edges is how most ropes wear out, and polyester stands up well to rough general use. It packs small. Twenty metres of 12mm rope rolls into a tidy bundle that fits a kit bag or a car boot. Diameter and length Ropes made for climbing are often 9mm to 10.5mm thick and 60m to 70m long, sized for long routes and light carrying. This rope is sized for other jobs. At 12mm it is thick enough to grip well on a hand-over-hand climb and still easy to knot. At 20m it covers a tall gym beam, a campsite set-up or a haul line from a boat, without a heavy coil to carry. Rope climbs in a gym or garden This is where the name comes from, and it is a good use for this rope. Anchor first Fix the rope to a beam, rafter or frame rated for a person moving on it. The rope is stronger than most anchors it will be tied to, so the anchor is the part to get checked. If in doubt, have a competent person fit it. Soft ground underneath Put a mat, grass or bark under the rope. Rope climbs end with a descent, and descents go faster than people expect. Knots for beginners Tying a knot every 40cm or so gives the feet something to push on. It turns a climb a beginner cannot do into one they can learn. Gloves for repeat work Sliding down causes rope burn. Gloves help on repeated climbs, and so does teaching a hand-under-hand descent. Supervise children An adult should watch every climb. Children climb only as high as the coach or parent is happy with. Other jobs it does well\nrigging a tarp or shelter on a campsite\nhanging food bags and kit off the ground\nhauling gear up to a platform or down a bank\ntie-downs and general deck work on a boat\ntying off and hauling gear on a fishing trip It is not a tow rope and it is not rated lifting gear. For towing a vehicle or lifting a load overhead, use equipment rated for that job. Looking after it Rinse after salt, sand or grit. Grit worked into the rope wears it from the inside every time it bends. Dry before coiling. Let the rope dry fully in the air before it goes back in a bag. Seal any cut end. Use heat or tape straight away, or the end will fray. Keep it out of the sun. Sunlight weakens synthetic rope over time, so do not leave it rigged outdoors all year. Check it before each use. Retire it from load-bearing work if you find a flat spot, a stiff section, glazing from friction heat, cuts or damaged fibres. The one in this kit is 6m long with 12 rungs, which is long enough for a proper run through rather than three steps and a stop. Four steel stakes hold it flat on grass.\n\nCones\n\nCones mark out gates, channels, slaloms and turning points. This kit has twelve, in two colours: six yellow and six orange. That second colour is more useful than it looks, as you will see below.\n\nSomething that keeps the ball coming back\n\nBall work alone is hard when the ball keeps running off. None of them are in this kit, and none are needed to start.\n\nChoosing what to buy\n\nStart with the goal. For speed and footwork, a ladder and cones. For touch and control, something that returns the ball. For team drills, cones and bibs.\n\nThen think about who is training. Younger players need simpler patterns, more space between drills and an adult setting things up. Older players and adults can run faster, more complex ladder patterns with the same kit.\n\nFinally, think about how often it will be used. Kit that goes out three times a week needs to pack away quickly, or it stops going out at all. That is the point of a single carry bag.\n\nA 20-minute session that works\n\nFive minutes on the ladder\n\nTwo feet in each rung, then one foot per rung, then lateral in and out. Slow and correct beats fast and messy.\n\nFive minutes of cone work with a ball\n\nA simple slalom through the cones, using both feet. Then the same again with a turn at the end.\n\nFive minutes with the kick trainer\n\nShort passes and control, alternating feet. Count the touches and try to beat the number next time.\n\nFive minutes of their choice\n\nThis is the part that makes a young player want to come back tomorrow.\n\nUsing the two cone colours\n\nSet up a yellow gate and an orange gate a few metres apart. As the player sets off, call a colour. They now have to read, decide and move, instead of running a pattern they already know.\n\nThat one change makes a drill look much more like a match. For younger children, it also turns a drill into a game.\n\nLadder technique that carries over\n\nKeep the eyes up. A player staring at the rungs is not learning anything they can use in a match.\n\nStay on the balls of the feet, with quiet, quick contacts.\n\nLet the arms work. Stiff arms slow the whole movement down.\n\nStop when it gets sloppy. Tired footwork drills teach tired footwork.\n\nSetting up and packing away\n\nOn grass, push the four steel stakes in to hold the ladder flat. On a hard floor or artificial pitch, leave them in the bag, as the ladder lies flat without them.\n\nWhen you finish, count the stakes back into the bag every time. A steel stake left in a lawn is hard to spot and will find a mower sooner or later. "description_short": "A pop up chipping net that keeps its shape when the ball lands, then folds down into a carry bag when the session is over.",
"description": "Where the shots go\n\nKeep an honest scorecard for a few rounds and count the shots you play from close to the green. For most club golfers it is a large share of the round.\n\nNow count how much time you spend practising those shots. For most people it is close to none. The range bay points at a long field, and everyone reaches for the driver.\n\nA chipping net moves short game practice into the back garden. That matters, because practice you can do in ten spare minutes is practice you will actually do.\n\nWhy a chipping net helps\n\nChipping is about two things: where the ball lands and how far it rolls. A net with clear targets gives you instant feedback on the first part. Hit ten balls and you know straight away how many found the zone you picked.\n\nYou can also practise in any weather that lets you stand outside, or in a garage with room to swing a wedge.\n\nWhy three targets beats one\n\nA single opening trains one thing: hit it at the net.\n\nThree targets make you decide before every shot. Which zone, which club, how much carry. That is the thought process you use on the course, and it does not develop by hitting ten identical shots at the same hole.\n\nChoosing a chipping net\n\nStability\n\nA chipping net that folds over when the first ball lands is no use. Look at the frame. This net has two spring steel frames that cross behind it, which keeps it upright and square.\n\nSet up and portability\n\nIf a net takes ten minutes to build, it stays in the shed. A pop up design that stands in seconds and folds into a bag gets used more often, in the garden, the park or at the club.\n\nTargets\n\nMore than one target keeps practice honest and less boring. You can set yourself games and track your scores.\n\nSpace\n\nMeasure where you plan to use it. You need room to stand back from the net and swing a wedge safely. "description_text": "Where the shots go Keep an honest scorecard for a few rounds and count the shots you play from close to the green. For most club golfers it is a large share of the round. Now count how much time you spend practising those shots. For most people it is close to none. The range bay points at a long field, and everyone reaches for the driver. A chipping net moves short game practice into the back garden. That matters, because practice you can do in ten spare minutes is practice you will actually do. Why a chipping net helps Chipping is about two things: where the ball lands and how far it rolls. A net with clear targets gives you instant feedback on the first part. Hit ten balls and you know straight away how many found the zone you picked. You can also practise in any weather that lets you stand outside, or in a garage with room to swing a wedge. Why three targets beats one A single opening trains one thing: hit it at the net. Three targets make you decide before every shot. Which zone, which club, how much carry. That is the thought process you use on the course, and it does not develop by hitting ten identical shots at the same hole. Choosing a chipping net Stability A chipping net that folds over when the first ball lands is no use. Look at the frame. This net has two spring steel frames that cross behind it, which keeps it upright and square. Set up and portability If a net takes ten minutes to build, it stays in the shed. A pop up design that stands in seconds and folds into a bag gets used more often, in the garden, the park or at the club. Targets More than one target keeps practice honest and less boring. You can set yourself games and track your scores. Space Measure where you plan to use it. You need room to stand back from the net and swing a wedge safely. At about 67cm wide and 54cm high it fits most gardens and garages. A practice routine that works\nTen balls at one target. "description": "Why practise on a mat at all\n\nGolf rewards repetition. Grooving a swing takes hundreds of balls, and hundreds of balls at a driving range add up quickly. A mat at home lets you hit those balls on a wet Tuesday evening, in the garage or the back garden, without booking a bay.\n\nA good mat gives you a steady, repeatable surface. That is the point. You can work on one thing, such as ball position or the low point of your swing, and know that any change you feel comes from you and not from a bad lie.\n\nWhat a mat cannot do\n\nEvery shot from a mat is from a flat, even lie. The course is not like that. Golfers who only practise on mats often find the first few holes harder than the range.\n\nSo use the mat for technique and repetition, and still get some practice on real grass when you can. The two work well together.\n\nWhat to look for in a golf mat\n\nTurf depth and feel\n\nThe turf should be close to the texture and resistance of fairway grass. Too thin and the club bounces. This mat uses a 16mm synthetic turf, which is deep enough for the club to work through the ball when you hit down on it.\n\nWhat sits underneath\n\nThe base matters more than most people think. Hit down on thin turf over concrete and the club stops, which jars the hands and wrists. A rubber backing absorbs that shock and grips the floor so the mat stays put between shots.\n\nTees that match your clubs\n\nPractice is more useful when you can tee the ball at the height you use on the course. This set includes a rubber tee and nine plastic tees in three heights:\n38mm for irons and low profile woods, with the ball barely above the turf.\n70mm for mid range woods, where you want the ball sitting up but still swept away.\n83mm for the driver, to catch the ball on the way up.\n\nThe rubber tee is the one to use for long sessions of driving practice.\n\nSize and space\n\nMeasure the space before you buy. Check the mat size in the product photos, and if the fit is tight, email us and we will confirm it.\n\nSetting up your practice space\n\nCheck the height first\n\nA full swing indoors needs more ceiling height than most garages have. Take a slow practice swing with your longest club before you set anything up. If the club gets close to the ceiling, stick to wedges and short irons indoors.\n\nGive the ball somewhere to go\n\nFull shots in a garden need a net. Pointing the mat away from the house, the neighbours and the windows sounds obvious, and it is still where most home setups go wrong. For short game work, a mat paired with a chipping net is the setup most people end up using.\n\nPick a flat, firm spot\n\nLay the mat on flat, firm ground. On concrete the rubber base does the work. On grass the mat beds in and stays still.\n\nGetting more from each session\nPractise little and often. Twenty focused minutes three times a week does more than one long session a month.\nWork on one thing at a time. Pick a single goal for the session, such as a steady tempo or a cleaner strike.\nChange clubs and tee heights. Move from wedge to mid iron to driver so the mat covers your whole bag.\nPay attention to the feel. A heavy shot should feel heavy. Use that feedback rather than hitting on autopilot.\n\nLooking after the mat\n\nEvery mat wears where you tee up most, because that is where every ball sits.\n\nMove your tee position around by a few centimetres, and turn the mat end for end every few weeks. Those two habits spread the wear and keep the surface even for longer.\n\nBrush the pile back up when it looks flat. Hose off mud and let the mat dry flat. Store it flat, or rolled with the turf facing out. Never fold it, because the rubber backing will keep the crease.\n\nIf you are leaving it outside, bring it in for the worst of the Irish winter. "description": "What a folding gymnastics mat is for\n\nA gymnastics mat puts a firm, cushioned layer between a child and the floor. At home that means rolls, handstands, bridges, cartwheels, stretching and conditioning, done on something kinder than floorboards.\n\nThis one is 180 x 60cm and 5cm thick, with a high density EPE foam core and an 18 oz vinyl cover. It folds into three panels and has a handle on each, which matters more than it sounds.\n\nFirmness matters more than thickness\n\nThe instinct with mats is that thicker is always better. Past a point, it is not.\n\nSoft foam feels kind underfoot, then soaks up the push a child needs for a cartwheel or a handstand. A mat that wobbles makes balance work harder, not easier.\n\nHigh density EPE foam behaves differently. It gives under an impact and stays steady under a foot. That is the combination you want for floor work and basic tumbling.\n\nWhat 5cm will and will not do\n\nFive centimetres of firm foam suits most home gymnastics:\nForward and backward rolls\nHandstands and bridges\nCartwheels\nStretching, splits and conditioning\nA landing area beside a floor beam or under a junior bar\n\nIt is not a landing mat for skills with height. Jumps off furniture or equipment, and anything thrown from a run up, need thicker crash mats and a coach. A mat softens contact with the floor. It does not make a skill safe, so children should practise with an adult watching and stay within what their coach has taught them.\n\nOne mat or several\n\nOne mat is enough for most home floor work. When a child's skills need more room, most families add a second mat and lay the two side by side.\n\nThis listing does not mention hook and loop edges, so plan on mats sitting next to each other rather than fixing together. Check the edges sit flush before anyone steps across the join.\n\nFloors\n\nWood and laminate. The vinyl is textured on both sides. The underside grips the floor, which helps stop the mat creeping during a session. Check it is lying flat before you start.\n\nCarpet. Works well. The carpet adds a little give, which makes balance work a touch harder.\n\nConcrete and garage floors. The mat takes the sting out of knees and elbows. Concrete stays hard underneath, though, so keep landings small and controlled.\n\nBeyond gymnastics\n\nOutside gymnastics, families use it for yoga, pilates, aerobics, and martial arts or MMA drills. The extra depth helps with kneeling work, and the firm foam keeps standing poses steady.\n\nIt is not a competition tatami, and it is not a surface for dropped weights. Foam and vinyl will not take a dumbbell landing on them.\n\nWhy the folding matters\n\nEquipment that takes effort to fetch soon stops being fetched. A mat that stands folded in a bedroom wardrobe comes out for ten minutes after school.\n\nFolded, it measures about 61 x 61 x 15cm. The handle on each panel means one person can carry it like a case, up the stairs or out to the car.\n\nLooking after the vinyl\n\nThe cover is 18 oz vinyl, puncture resistant and non absorbent, so sweat sits on top rather than soaking in.\nWipe it after sweaty sessions with a damp cloth and mild soap.\nLet it dry fully before you fold it.\nTrain barefoot or in gymnastics shoes; rough soles scuff the surface.\nKeep sharp objects off it.\nStore it with nothing heavy on top, because foam flattened for months does not fully recover.\n\nSmall tears in the cover can be patched with a vinyl repair tape or adhesive. That is what makes takedowns, collar ties and ground work possible with gloves on.\n\nTraining, sparring and competition gloves\n\nIt helps to know the three broad types before you buy.\n\nCompetition gloves are the lightest, with the least padding. Their weight and construction are set by whoever runs the event.\n\nTraining gloves carry more padding and are built for everyday bag work, pad work and drilling.\n\nSparring gloves put more padding between you and your partner, so both of you get through the round in one piece.\n\nThese gloves are for training and sparring. If you are entering a competition, check the event's glove rules first and use what the organiser specifies.\n\nWhat these gloves are made of\n\nThe outer is a matte finish faux leather that wipes clean and does not go slick with use.\n\nOver the knuckles sits a high-density, multi-layer injection-moulded EVA foam core with added gel. A moulded core keeps its shape through repeated impacts, where a stuffed pad tends to pack down in the middle, right where you keep landing.\n\nThe inside has a mesh lining, and there are ventilation holes in the palm to let air through during long sessions. "description_short": "Choose the rating from the athlete's body weight, with their coach. The vaulter should never be heavier than the pole's rating.",
"description": "The rule that comes first\n\nEvery pole in this range carries a weight rating. The vaulter's body weight must not be more than that rating.\n\nEverything else about choosing a pole is coaching. This part is equipment safety, and it does not change for a strong athlete, a short run-up or a low grip.\n\nWhat a vaulting pole does\n\nA vaulting pole stores the energy of the run-up as it bends, then gives it back as it straightens. Its length, stiffness and weight rating decide how much bend a vaulter can put into it, and how safely it carries them.\n\nThat is why poles are not one size fits all. Two vaulters of the same body weight may still want different poles once speed and technique are taken into account. Neither of them goes below their weight.\n\nThe four things to weigh up\n\nWeight rating\n\nThis is the limit. Each pole is rated for an athlete body weight, and this range runs from 27kg (60 lbs) to 54kg (120 lbs) in seven steps. Pick a rating at or above the vaulter's weight, and let the coach decide how far above.\n\nFlex\n\nThe flex figure is printed near the top of each pole. It shows how far the pole bends under a set test load, and a lower number means a stiffer pole. A pole that is too stiff for the vaulter will not bend properly. One that is too soft will not give enough lift.\n\nLength\n\nAll seven poles here are 3.35m. A longer pole can carry a vaulter higher, but it takes more speed and control to use well. For vaulters still learning their plant and take-off, 3.35m is a common training length.\n\nMaterial\n\nVaulting poles are made from glass fibre or carbon fibre. This range is glass fibre, the usual material for training poles and a sound choice for club and school programmes. We do not stock carbon poles.\n\nBefore the first vault\n\nA pole is only one part of the set-up. A vaulter also needs:\na runway with a steady, even surface\na vaulting box set into the runway\na proper landing bed\na coach who watches every jump and calls the grip height\n\nPole vault is not something to teach yourself with kit bought online. If any of those pieces are missing, the pole stays on the rack.\n\nMoving up the range\n\nYoung vaulters grow, and their poles have to grow with them. A vaulter who was 36kg last season may need the 41kg or 45kg pole this season.\n\nCheck each athlete's weight against their pole at the start of every block of training. A growth spurt can take a vaulter past their pole's rating in a few months, and nobody notices unless someone checks.\n\nSharing poles in a squad\n\nPoles in a club rack get shared, and that is fine within the rule. A pole can be used by any vaulter who is at or under its rating. In a mixed group, the heaviest vaulter decides whether the pole is suitable.\n\nEach pole is marked at the top with its length, flex and weight rating. Get into the habit of reading the marking before a pole is handed over.\n\nInspection, every session\n\nCheck the full length\n\nRun both hands along the pole in good light. Feel for soft spots and look for cracks, splinters or lifted fibres.\n\nCheck after any knock\n\nA pole dropped onto a hard edge, trodden on or caught in a door can be damaged in ways that are easy to miss. Inspect it properly before anyone vaults on it again.\n\nRetire damaged poles\n\nAny crack, splinter, soft spot or delamination means the pole is finished. A damaged vaulting pole is not repaired, and it is not kept back for easy sessions.\n\nStorage and transport\n\nStore poles flat, on a rack or supported along their length, indoors and out of direct sun. A pole leaned in a corner for a winter can take a set.\n\nFor travel, use a protective tube or pole bag and support the pole at both ends. A 3.35m pole needs roof bars or a van. Never bend it to fit.\n\nBuying for a club or school\n\nWhen you set up a rack for a squad, start with the ratings that match your current athletes and add poles as they grow. For several poles in one order, ask for a quote through our wholesale page.",

"description_text": "The rule that comes first Every pole in this range carries a weight rating. The vaulter's body weight must not be more than that rating. Everything else about choosing a pole is coaching. This part is equipment safety, and it does not change for a strong athlete, a short run-up or a low grip. What a vaulting pole does A vaulting pole stores the energy of the run-up as it bends, then gives it back as it straightens. Its length, stiffness and weight rating decide how much bend a vaulter can put into it, and how safely it carries them. That is why poles are not one size fits all. Two vaulters of the same body weight may still want different poles once speed and technique are taken into account. Neither of them goes below their weight. The four things to weigh up Weight rating This is the limit. Each pole is rated for an athlete body weight, and this range runs from 27kg (60 lbs) to 54kg (120 lbs) in seven steps. Pick a rating at or above the vaulter's weight, and let the coach decide how far above. Flex The flex figure is printed near the top of each pole. It shows how far the pole bends under a set test load, and a lower number means a stiffer pole. A pole that is too stiff for the vaulter will not bend properly. One that is too soft will not give enough lift. Length All seven poles here are 3.35m. A longer pole can carry a vaulter higher, but it takes more speed and control to use well. For vaulters still learning their plant and take-off, 3.35m is a common training length. Material Vaulting poles are made from glass fibre or carbon fibre. This range is glass fibre, the usual material for training poles and a sound choice for club and school programmes. We do not stock carbon poles. Before the first vault A pole is only one part of the set-up. A vaulter also needs:\na runway with a steady, even surface\na vaulting box set into the runway\na proper landing bed\na coach who watches every jump and calls the grip height Pole vault is not something to teach yourself with kit bought online. If any of those pieces are missing, the pole stays on the rack. Moving up the range Young vaulters grow, and their poles have to grow with them. A vaulter who was 36kg last season may need the 41kg or 45kg pole this season. Check each athlete's weight against their pole at the start of every block of training. A growth spurt can take a vaulter past their pole's rating in a few months, and nobody notices unless someone checks. Sharing poles in a squad Poles in a club rack get shared, and that is fine within the rule. A pole can be used by any vaulter who is at or under its rating. In a mixed group, the heaviest vaulter decides whether the pole is suitable. Each pole is marked at the top with its length, flex and weight rating. Get into the habit of reading the marking before a pole is handed over. Inspection, every session Check the full length Run both hands along the pole in good light. Feel for soft spots and look for cracks, splinters or lifted fibres. Check after any knock A pole dropped onto a hard edge, trodden on or caught in a door can be damaged in ways that are easy to miss. Inspect it properly before anyone vaults on it again. Retire damaged poles Any crack, splinter, soft spot or delamination means the pole is finished. A damaged vaulting pole is not repaired, and it is not kept back for easy sessions. Storage and transport Store poles flat, on a rack or supported along their length, indoors and out of direct sun. A pole leaned in a corner for a winter can take a set. For travel, use a protective tube or pole bag and support the pole at both ends. A 3.35m pole needs roof bars or a van. Never bend it to fit. Buying for a club or school When you set up a rack for a squad, start with the ratings that match your current athletes and add poles as they grow. "description": "Why portable goals get used\n\nThe biggest factor in whether football kit gets used is how long it takes to set up. If it is ready in under a minute, it comes out after school, before dinner or at the end of training. If it takes ten minutes and a diagram, it comes out twice a summer.\n\nPop up goals sit firmly in the first group. You take them out of the bag, they spring into shape, and the game starts.\n\nWhere they work\n\nA portable goal is not tied to one pitch. It goes where the players are:\nThe back garden for a kickabout.\nThe local park or green.\nA training session where the coach needs extra goals for small sided games.\nA school yard or sports hall, set up for a lesson and cleared away after.\n\nWhat to look for in a portable goal\n\nSet up time\n\nA pop up frame beats a pole and clip frame for speed. "description_text": "Why portable goals get used The biggest factor in whether football kit gets used is how long it takes to set up. If it is ready in under a minute, it comes out after school, before dinner or at the end of training. If it takes ten minutes and a diagram, it comes out twice a summer. Pop up goals sit firmly in the first group. You take them out of the bag, they spring into shape, and the game starts. Where they work A portable goal is not tied to one pitch. It goes where the players are:\nThe back garden for a kickabout.\nThe local park or green.\nA training session where the coach needs extra goals for small sided games.\nA school yard or sports hall, set up for a lesson and cleared away after. "description": "Table tennis or ping pong?\n\nThey are the same game on the same table. \"Ping pong\" tends to be what people call a game in the garage, and \"table tennis\" what a club calls it, but the table, the net and the rules are the same.\n\nMeasure the room, not just the table\n\nThe table itself is 274cm long and 153cm wide. That is only part of the space you need.\n\nBehind each end\n\nAllow about two metres of clear floor behind each end. Nets hung between fixed posts in a sports hall, or stood on a permanent beach court.\n\nA portable net changes where the game can happen. This one is 4.27m wide, stands on its own poles and packs into a carry case. It will go up on a beach, a lawn, a driveway, a campsite or a hall floor.\n\nWhat to look for in a portable volleyball net\n\nFour things decide whether a portable net gets used all summer or sits in the garage.\n\nMaterials\n\nThe net should shrug off damp and sand. This one is nylon, on painted steel poles.\n\nHow it stands up\n\nMost beach sets rely on stakes. Stakes hold in damp, packed sand near the water, then pull out of the dry sand higher up the beach, which is where people actually set up.\n\nThis net uses no stakes at all. It is free standing, so the surface matters much less than whether the ground is flat.\n\nHeight settings\n\nThe poles have three marked settings, with 155cm at the top. Being able to change height lets a mixed group of adults and children play the same game. This one folds into its own carry case, and the pole sections are joined by a bungee cord so none go missing.\n\nBe clear about the height\n\nFull indoor volleyball is played with the top of the net at 2.43m for men and 2.24m for women. No portable garden net reaches those heights, and this one tops out at 155cm.\n\nSo treat this as a recreational volleyball net. That is not a weakness for the way most people play. At 155cm the ball still comes over with pace and adults have to work for it. Lower down, children can get the ball back over and stay in the rally.\n\nFor a club, the net is useful for skills work and youth sessions, not for matches.\n\nSetting up on a beach\n\nA few habits make the difference between an afternoon of play and an afternoon of fixing the net.\n\n1. Choose your spot before you unpack. Flat ground, away from the main path, and far enough up the beach that the tide will not reach you.\n2. Stand the poles and fit the net. The bungee cord pulls the pole sections into place.\n3. Set both poles to the same height mark so the net sits level.\n4. If it is breezy, weigh down each foot with a bag or a stone. Any free standing net can move in wind.\n5. Check the net after the first few rallies and adjust if it has settled.\n\nOn grass, tarmac or a hall floor, the same steps apply. Allow about two minutes once you have done it once.\n\nWhat is in the box, and what is not\n\nThe store calls this a beach volleyball set, and it is worth being clear about what that means here.\n\nYou get the net, the poles and a carry case. There is no ball and there are no boundary lines, so bring your own ball and mark the court with cones, bags or a line drawn in the sand.\n\nLooking after it\n\nBeaches are hard on any kit: salt, sand and packing up in a hurry.\nShake sand out of the net and off the poles before packing.\nRinse off salt with fresh water when you get home.\nLet the net dry fully before it goes into the case, or it will smell.\nKeep grit out of the pole sections so they slide together cleanly.\n\nPack it away after play rather than leaving it up all season. That is what the case is for.\n\nOther games on the same net\n\nThis is the same net the store sells for badminton and football tennis, with casual tennis and pickleball also possible. Only the height setting changes. If you own it for the beach, you also have a garden badminton net.\n\nFor schools and clubs\n\nFor PE lessons, summer camps and youth sessions, a net that goes up and comes down between uses saves a lot of hassle.\n\nFor several nets, use our /wholesale/ page to ask for a quote.",
